Broken Pieces

We Give Thanks

Copyright 2006.

This was written Thanksgiving weekend 2006. It reflects the fun our family has each year as we get together on this holiday to enjoy one another's company, to catch up on what's been going on, and to fellowship together.

Overriding all of that however, in our family, is a need to express Thanks to our Maker for His provision for us. We realize that He is our provider.

We have family members who have passed on, my Dad, and grandparents. Most of our family is still with us, yet these get togethers have a little bittersweet mixed in as we realize who isn't there anymore. Still, we know that we will someday be reunited in heaven with them.

Lyrics

Verse 1:
Well, we're gathered here together, with our cousins and our friends
To give thanks to our Maker once again
For through the turkey and the trimmings, and the coffee and the cokes
Through the laughter and the singing, and the worn-out, corny jokes
Through the deviled eggs and pickles, pumpkin pie and cold ice cream
Through the feast and the festivities, there is one prevailing theme:

Chorus:
We give thanks to You! We give thanks to You!
For today, and every day, God, we give thanks for all You do!
Thank You Father, for Your mercy
Thank You, Jesus, for Your grace
Thank You, Spirit, for Your guidance
As we journey through this place!
You're our Healer and Provider
Our Defender and our Friend
And You've promised You'd be with us
To the end.

Verse 2:
Some are no longer with us; they've been taken on home
Though we're longing to be with them, we must carry on alone.
But through the heartache and the longing, in frustration, or in fears,
There is One who walks beside, collecting every single tear
He's the One who made the heavens, and He'll wipe those tears away!
We'll remember them no more, but we'll remember to say:

Chorus:
